Born in Devon and spending much of my formative years on the northern fringe of Dartmoor I eventually left the West Country to find out for myself if the streets of London were really paved with gold. Following three years at Exeter College of Art where I completed a general Intermediate Course in fine art and graphic design, I assembled a portfolio of work in an attempt to convince prospective employers that I really was ‘God’s gift’ to the advertising industry.

Reality decreed that painting be put on hold in favour of earning a realistic living in graphics. Subsequently I gained my first position as junior general artist with a small design group in Central London. Within a few years I was promoted to studio manager and became a director shortly afterwards.

Forming my own design consultancy in the early seventies, for the next thirty years I enjoyed a life in graphics involved with the design and application of various corporate identities for national and international companies. In addition to those campaigns we produced design and artwork and organised the printing for a wide range of brochures, leaflets and posters for our clients.

On retirement in 2002 I decided to take up the brush to rekindle my lost love of painting in the belief and hope that all those early years at the Exeter College of Art were not wasted.

Britain has so much to offer the painter of land, seascapes and skies. From a personal perspective the coast of Kent along the Romney Marsh and those of the Swale estuary are particularly inspiring.

My work is almost exclusively painted in oils, a wonderfully forgiving medium and a joy to work with. I exhibit in a number of group shows within the southeast and as a result have sold into various private collections within the area.
